Quicklime (unslaked lime) is produced from limestone by heat treatment. Limestone is burned at high temperatures, as a result of which calcium carbonate contained in limestone is converted to calcium oxide, and carbon dioxide:
CaCO3 + heating -> CaO + CO2
Unslaked lime has a white, possibly yellowish-white color. Its colour is largely determined by its chemical composition and the type of fuel used for combustion. The chemical symbol for unslaked lime is CaO.
Unslaked lime reacts with water, which reaction is exothermic, thus generating heat. Areas of use:
- slaked lime is prepared with the addition of water. The The powdered lime is the hydrated lime, the lime extinguished with excess water lime pulp.. Both products can be found in our portfolio.
- for slagging in the steel industry
- soil stabilization as a load-bearing foundation for the road to be built or for solidification of clay soils
- As an additive to drying plasters in construction industry
