Bentonite

Bentonite is a natural formation that belongs to the group of clay minerals. It was first called Taylorite (pronounced telerite), after its discoverer, William Taylor. It was first called by its final name in 1898 by W. C. Knight, who named it after Fort Benton, Montana, USA.

The main mineral component of bentonite is montmorillonite, named after the Montmorillon site in France in 1847. The main property of bentonite is that it gels upon contact with water, is able to bind many times its own volume, and similarly to zeolite, it has a high ion exchange ability. Among bentonites, calcium and sodium bentonites are distinguished. Bentonite occurs in both calcium and sodium forms. It is not uncommon for calcium bentonites to be converted to sodium bentonite through a process called activation. Thanks to activation, bentonite acquires more beneficial properties.

Bentonite is a substance that has a very wide range of uses. The bentonites we offer are characterized by micro-granules within a narrow grain size range, high montmorillonite mineral content, regular and homogeneous particle size distribution, and high swelling volume. In some cases, several raw materials can serve as raw materials for our products. That is why it happens that the raw material of the finished product comes from up to three different countries.

Our product range includes Ibeco-D and TerraBent clarification products.

For drilling, drilling mud preparation, as well as for the construction of gap walls, base and surface insulation of storage facilities Ibeco-D. We look forward to your inquiry!

In addition, we offer it as a wine filtering agent the TerraBent DERÍTŐ.

Bentonite can also be found in pet farming as litter, for water purification, in the pharmaceutical industry as an additive lubricating the surface of tablets, in food production to inhibit caching, for cosmetic and sanitary purposes, for joint diseases, and in many other areas where the aim is to exploit its beneficial properties described above.
